Players of the Week Announced
Ted Williams was named National League Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Bill Dickey wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .476 with 12 RBI and slugged 1.238 in 21 at bats. Dickey's play has helped Detroit go 7-3 in their last ten games and climb to within half a game of the league leading Indians.

It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Brooklyn's leftfielder Ted Williams. Ted was on fire, hitting .524 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. Behind William's bat Brooklyn has gone 8-2 in their last ten games, making them the first team to win 60 games this year and extending their lead to 5.5 games over Pittsburgh.

AMERICAN LEAGUE UPDATE
Washington Season Recap [League Leaders]

Jimmie Foxx has kept Washington in the race in the American League.
Washington traded pitcher Eddie Smith and reliever Al Javery to Cleveland for third baseman Whitey Kurowski and a 2rd round pick before the all-star break when Washington had a record under .500. Since this trade was made the Senators have moved up to fourth place in the AL and are now three games over .500.

Best Batter candidate Jimmie Foxx leads our team and the AL league in most offense stats. Offensively Foxx is getting lots of help thought out the entire lineup. The only pitcher showing anything is starter Marius Russo, an off season free agent pickup. The other free agent pitcher signed, Johnny Murphy, has been a major disappointment during the first half of the year. Washington is behind Cleveland by 4.5 games at the halfway mark. But if the Senators hitting continues and Murphy and some of the other pitchers step up in the second half they can make a run at the Indians.

NATIONAL LEAGUE UPDATE
Hitting Dominating the National League [League Leaders]

Johnny Mize currently has 28 homeruns against the week NL pitching.
Good pitching has been almost non-existant in the National League this year. The Phillies league best team ERA of 4.81 would currently be the sixth best ERA in the American League and both Brooklyn and Pittsburgh have team batting averages over .300 in the NL while only Cleveland is above .280 in the AL. Only four pitchers in the National League have ERA's under 4.00 with Brave's rookie phenom Howie Pollet leading the league with a 3.12 ERA. Detroit has a team ERA of under 4.00 in the American League.

It can be argued that the hitting is just better in the National League and the pitchers can't keep up but the recent trade of Greenberg to Brooklyn seems to dispute this as Greenberg's average and power numbers have gone up significantly since moving to the National League leading Dodgers from Boston.

The future isn't as bright for the National League hitters though because if the season ended today the NL would have the top three picks in the pitching heavy draft.
